A Naples design panel gave final approval Wednesday to a real estate developer’s plan for a Olde Naples downtown promenade of waterfront dining on Naples Bay.
The six-member design review board voted unanimously in favor of the project from Naples Bay Center LLC for five restaurants with rooftop and outdoor dining overlooking the bay near the intersection of Riverpoint Drive and the Fifth Avenue South bridge.
Harry Zea, the project’s developer, said construction should start this summer and that he hopes to have The Prom on Fifth open by the end of tourist season in 2018.
With approximately 450 seats of rooftop and outdoor dining, 10 dock spaces open to boaters and a boardwalk wrapping around the property, the project stands to become one of the largest public waterfront venues in the city.

A new study says people who live in the Naples area live longer than anywhere else in the country and experts say it all comes down to money.
Deborah Robinson is what people in Naples call a unicorn. She was born and raised in Collier County, still lives there and is proud of it.
“It's gorgeous. The weather, the parks, how could you not like Naples,” Robinson said.  
She's now raising a family in Collier County. When she learned that Collier has the highest life expectancy in the country, with people living to around 83.5 years, she wasn't surprised.
“You can relax on the beach, go for a walk and have a picnic or watch a movie on the lawn at Mercato. We're very lucky,” Robinson said.

Basketball Hall of Famer Larry Bird's Naples house has been bouncing up and down since he first tried to sell it for $4.8 million in March 2006.

The 6,007-square-foot custom mansion didn't sell then and was withdrawn from the market.

Bird re-listed it for the same price a month after he became president of the Indiana Pacers in July 2013, according to Realtor.com.

He cut the price to $4.6 million in July 2014, then almost immediately re-listed it at $4.8 million, the national real estate listing side said.

But the Park Shore at 308 Neapolitan Way still had no takers, so in late June the price dropped back down to $4.6 million again, Realtor.com reported.

Although the basketball hoop that once graced its four-car garage is gone, the classically styled mansion still shows signs of its 6-foot-9-inch owner in the form of extra-high door frames and ceilings.

While Port Royal reigns as the most upscale address in Naples, other communities such as the Moorings and Park Shore are catching up as the newest mega luxury places in Naples.
Smaller homes are being demolished and replaced with top of the line luxury houses created by a large variety of local builders.
Don Stevenson, of Don Stevenson Design, compared a new home he designed in the Moorings to many he’s done in Port Royal.
“Those homes in the Moorings over the last few years have increased in value,” he began. “A lot of my particular clients have moved from gated communities to the Moorings neighborhood to be closer to downtown and the beaches. It has been extremely hot and popular for the last three years.”

Stevenson said the reason the homes are getting so pricey there is because the land is now so valuable.
“The value of the land real estate has gone up so dramatically,” he explained. “You cannot find a lot to build a house on f; ...
